Racing
A crypto-minded punter still meets racing first, since racing is what TAB NZ grew up on. This section describes how racing bets are struck and settled.
Horses come first, with the Melbourne Cup as the annual peak and greyhounds alongside. Two pricing systems run at TAB NZ, fixed odds and the tote, and the pool payout of the latter goes by the name dividend. Its rulebook defines bets such as the quinella, exacta and trifecta, plus win, place and each way.
The Racing Integrity Board oversees the sport. Dogs are the sensitive part: staged closure begins on 1 August 2026, and the same date ends any offshore operator’s ability to accept a greyhound wager.
