Cookie policy – cryptobetsnz
A site about crypto betting in New Zealand keeps its tracking to a minimum, and this policy lists what runs, why, and how it can be switched off. Besides cookies, which are small text files kept by a browser, the same rules cover local and session storage entries and counting pixels.
What the law requires
Where cookies and similar tools gather personal information, the Privacy Act 2020 applies, through its information privacy principles (section 22). Collection must have a lawful purpose tied to running the site (IPP 1), and the person is told what is gathered and for what reason (IPP 3). Reasonable security safeguards protect the information (IPP 5), it is held no longer than needed (IPP 9), and sending it outside New Zealand is subject to IPP 12. A choice made in the cookie banner can be altered at any time.
Files that are always set
Some files are needed for the site to run reliably: they hold a session, balance load between servers, guard forms from abuse and store the cookie choice. No separate choice is offered for these. Session files vanish when the browser closes, while the stored choice lasts at most twelve months.
Files set after a choice
Functional files recall settings such as the comparison tables last opened. Analytics files record page views and which pages are read, so content can be improved. These two groups are only set once the banner choice has been made. Analysis uses shortened IP addresses, and no profile follows behaviour across different sites.
Outside services
Videos, maps and similar embedded services may set files of their own, and that provider’s privacy rules then also apply; any objection goes to that provider. cryptobetsnz sets no advertising cookies that build profiles for personalised ads unless the banner clearly allows it.
Changing or withdrawing the choice
A choice can be altered or withdrawn whenever wanted through the “Cookie settings” link in the footer, and a withdrawal works for the future. Browsers also let their users block and delete cookies in their own privacy settings. After the necessary files are deleted the banner returns, and some features may briefly stop working.
Complaints
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner receives complaints about how personal information is handled. The privacy policy of this site describes that handling in more detail.
